Dead for Lack of Care

The other day, there was an article in Metro about Julie, a disabled woman who starved to death after her carer chose to go visit her own mother instead of doing her job.

Julie, who needed help to eat, clothe and feed herself, died after three days without access to food, water or medication.

This is a situation I think most of us who are depending on carers for our needs to met are frightened of. We are painfully aware of the fact that the difference between good and bad carers is life or death… 😞

Read the article here, and let me know what you think.

At the tender age of three, Leanna Benjamin knew her place was in the limelight and that nothing else would do. From her parents' living room in Leicester, she pirouetted her way straight through school into the BBC. Just as her dreams were coming to fruition, a simple case of the flu triggered a debilitating illness that has left her with life changing consequences. Leanna Benjamin is a Graeae Theatre Write to Play alum, and a Leeds Playhouse Fuse Writer, but this is not the synopsis for her new play - it is the story of her life. And she wants to share it with you.
