Friends,  LEANNA WHO?,  LIFE

The Biggest Gift

When you’re feeling ill, but get a call from your friend saying “do you need a hug?”

Silently, you say “I wish, but you’re in London.”

Then you’re brain wakes up, “where are you?”

”See you in 9 minutes”, he says. And you barely have the energy to brush your hair and get out of bed.

You open the door to a smiling dear friend (You know who you are!) and the pain is still there, but for that moment the joy of a 5-minute visit subdues the intensity.

I am so thankful for the blessing, and back to bed I go a little lighter.

The biggest gift you can give is your time.

He cared enough to check I was able to have a visitor, then gave me the hug I needed.

I am so blessed to have special friends.

At the tender age of three, Leanna Benjamin knew her place was in the limelight and that nothing else would do. From her parents' living room in Leicester, she pirouetted her way straight through school into the BBC. Just as her dreams were coming to fruition, a simple case of the flu triggered a debilitating illness that has left her with life changing consequences. Leanna Benjamin is a Graeae Theatre Write to Play alum, and a Leeds Playhouse Fuse Writer, but this is not the synopsis for her new play - it is the story of her life. And she wants to share it with you.
